The Wish

“Heaven and Hell” is that absolute substantiation, from experience, of everything we love - the light, and everything we hate - the darkness. Pleasure and Pain multiplied by infinity. Time multiplied by infinity. They stand juxtaposed like great figures in the decisive, and final battle between every thing that is binary - eyes closed, or shut, day and night, right and wrong, man and woman, forwards and backwards, you and the other.

Binaries multiplied by infinite distinction, Heaven contains within its boundaries every phenomenal thing in opposition to what is contained on the frontiers of Hell, and Hell contains within its boundaries every phenomenal thing in opposition to what is contained on the frontiers of Heaven. The sum of these things man has categorized as Good and Evil.

And the forever tearing apart of Good from Evil, to an ultimate successor, is his ultimate and foolish wish.

With this tearing apart he wishes for his own annihilation, wills his own non-existence, desires his own unconsciousness. The genesis of the binary relationship is coterminous and equivalent with the genesis of consciousness. That is, personal consciousness implies binary relationships and the latter implies the former. Consciousness is an inner privacy which would not be possible without at the same time creating the distinction between one’s self and the other - those things which are not one’s self.

To wish for no pain is to have nothing in opposition to one’s self - to be absorbable into everything without impediment. Likewise, to have only pain is to have no inner privacy for which to, at least, create any small corner of pleasure that cannot be usurped by something else. To this extent, then, the absence of Pain for infinite Pleasure, and the absence of Pleasure for infinite Pain, Heaven and Hell, are both the very absence of a binary relationship, thus, the absence of consciousness altogether.

To wish for either Heaven of Hell, the prevailing of either Ultimate Good or Evil, is to wish for an annihilation of the consciousness. And to wish this, is to will neither day or night, man or woman, right or wrong, or even Pain or Pleasure themselves. It’s a wish for nothingness, for Nothing to prevail.
